Cannon's Legacy of Love

Cannon Slade Walker was stillborn on November 18, 2011 with no known cause. His parents, Amanda and Joey, vowed to keep his memory alive and reached out to perinatal loss coordinators across the state to identify what types of comforting measures parents experiencing the loss of a child need. Out of this, Cannon’s Legacy of Love was born.

With the help of a special volunteer, Carol Kenner, we have made over 150 matching baby blankets for the perinatal loss program at local hospitals. These blankets are made in an assortment of sizes based on the birth size of the baby and come with a matching blanket – one to bury with the baby and one for the parent’s to have to keep with them. In addition, we have supplied multiple families with Memory Teddy Bears to fill their empty, grieving arms. These bears range in size as well and have a special, hidden pouch in the back of the bear to store a special memory, letter, or even cremation ashes.

With the help of a second volunteer, Carolyn Mathis, we package our memory bears and handmade blankets into a beautiful mesh bag that will include a specially designed tag that shares our personal story about Cannon’s Legacy of Love. These special packages go to hospitals in Lexington, Nicholasville, Paducah, Corbin, Danville and Richmond where our services have been requested.

In addition, we were able to partner with Heavenly Angel Garments to get a beautiful supply of burial gowns and outfits for grieving families to choose from. This wonderful not-for-profit takes wedding and other special occasion outfits and repurposes them to make burial gowns for mom’s and dad’s that might not have known that they would need them.
