The Toy Chest Children’s Charity establishes Service Learning Grant in memory of Founding Board Member

The Toy Chest Children’s Charity, a Lexington, KY-based charitable organization that provides toys, books and clothing to children in underserved areas in Kentucky, has announced the establishment of the Priscilla K. Gray Service Learning Grant for Kentucky high school students.

Established in memory of the founding board member, Ms. Gray, was instrumental in the development of The Toy Chest and its mission. Her dedication to creating a better world for the children of Kentucky helped to shape the charity which has provided welcome bags for kids served by the Kentucky Domestic Violence Program, luggage for children entering foster care, and new clothes and toys to nearly 2,500 children in central and eastern Kentucky over the past six years. She passed away on February 24, 2017.

Through the Priscilla K. Gray Service Learning Grant, the Toy Chest will award grants in increments of $500 or more, totaling $1,500 annually, to Kentucky high school students. The grants will be given to fund service projects developed and implemented by the students themselves. Submission criteria will include a short essay detailing the service idea, objective(s), implementation, and evaluation plans.

“This grant provides a unique service learning opportunity for children by giving them a platform to serve others in their own communities,” said Ron Gray, founder of The Toy Chest. “Many students have wonderful and unique ideas on how to serve, but lack the resources to make it a reality. We’re here to help build tomorrow's service leaders today.”

Applications are now being taken for 2024. For more information on the Priscilla K. Gray Grant, and to access the application visit:
